Six new smokin' chunks o' wax you can't live without
((...according to Dr. Xavier Nefarious))
Boss Hog: S/T
(Geffen)...Proof's in the puddin', evolution is a sweet, sweet thing
(or, something like that). Aside from the one Boss Hog song, (that would
be "Trigger Man" offa the first offering) which has found itself
on almost every single compilation tape I've made since I heard it, this
is far and above my favorite B.H. effort yet. This LP is what you've come
to expect, and a whole lot more. It's ugly, it's weird, it's sorta cute
(but not in a foul way, and never for too long), it's sexy, and above all
it moves the booty in ways I can't even begin to explain. Righteous!
the Misfits: Collection Vol.2
(Caroline)...Releasing this second collection is just about the sanest
thing Mr. Danzig has done in years (tho Jerry and Doyle probably don't think
so). "Return of the Fly" is reason enough to buy this, since it
is not only one of the best Misfits track of all time, but was previously
only available as a bootleg. While some of the versions of songs on this
may not even come close to the ones you're familiar with, the inclusion
of such gems as "We Are 138", "Rat(t) Fink", a remixed
"Cough Cool", and "Last Caress", make it just too damn
cool to pass up.
Chrome Cranks: S/T
(PCP)...Cuervo just won't shut up about these guys. I'm inclined
to agree with him tho, these fellas take the swampy dementia fuzz-blues
thing to the extreme. While they don't seem to take to kindly to Scientists
compairisons, fact is, they're inevitable. I can't seem to praise this record
enough, so you simply must seek it out and see for your self. If you dig
'em, check out "Dead Cool" on Crypt, or the "Lost Time Blues"
EP on PCP, they won't dissapoint.
Cheater Slicks: Don't Like You
(In the Red Records)...This band is so cool. Cuervo's band did a
brief tour w/ these lowlifes last year, and barely lived to tell about it.
The Cheater Slicks drink, they drink alot. The Cheater Slicks can clear
a room full of so called "alternative types" so fast, you'll wet
yourself in sheer delight. The Cheater Slicks are some of the most pissed
off, downtrodden motherfuckers you'll ever meet. The Cheater Slicks' brand
of Lo-Fi dirt rock is so nasty in it's sincerity that it's actually frightening
at times. The Cheater Slicks new album was produced by Jon Spencer, but
that doesn't seem to impress the legions of people who they've scared the
shit out of. Above all, you fucking losers, the Cheater Slicks Don't Like
You!
Sugar Shack: Shotgun For Two
(Au Go Go)...Riffs, Riffs, and more Riffs. Can't get enough of these
damn fine riffs! It's punchy, it's hard, it swings, it's catchy, and it'll
leave you hummin' these tunes for days. "Sonic Sally", is a totally
ferocious, dancing can o' whoop ass. You need this, don't even think about
throwing your next party without it. You'll thank me...honest!
Unsane: Scattered, Smothered & Covered
(Amphetamine Reptile)...A very good friend of mine, who's taste in
music I consider one of the most refined, dismisses this outfit as a heavy
metal band. Sorry bub, but yer dead wrong. This band is to Metallica
what Pussy Galore was to Bob Seger. Huge, and I mean monolith distortion
drenched grooves that flat out kick your ass. This is about as mean, ugly,
and down right heavy as band can get and still not appeal to the
longhair "mosh" set. Whoa...
